Summer at People Tree

Fair trade fashion favourite People Tree has wowed us all with their latest offerings.

Orla Kiely with People Tree is a deliciously girly range that is perfect for this week's mini heat wave.  I love the lot but I can definitely see myself enjoying the sun in the Navy Cabins Dress - 100% Fair Trade Cotton and with a retro twist. Fab.

And not forgetting my other favourite, the Alpine Grove Flared Dress.  Lady-like and lovely, it'll stand the test of time.

And for when the sun goes down, I've got my beady eye on the Zakhee Shariff Paisley Box Top that will look perfect with a pair of shorts and a cocktail.

Plus, until Sunday, there's an extra 20% off.  Who cares whether the weather is planning to stay put for a while, get in there now anyway!

Quote of the day...

"What would be really wonderful is for the industry itself to take a deep breath and slow down so that we don't feel quite so much pressure to change the colour of handbags quite so often and for 'ethical' fashion not to have to be pigeonholed but its principles embraced by everyone from the high street up, and not just the chosen few."

Get Katherine Hamnett's t-shirt for Climate Week!

Just popped into H&M to buy the official t-shirt for Climate Week (ends 18th March) - it's an exclusive and limited edition by British fashion legend Katherine Hamnett and it certainly pretty natty.  All profits go to the Environmental Justice Foundation and the t-shirt is made from 100% certified organic cotton, more ethically produced using renewable energy, and it carries the Carbon Reduction Label certified by the Carbon Trust.

Turns out I'm in good company...Roisin Murphy (one undeniably stylish lass) and The Vaccines are among those sporting one this week.  And it's only £9.99!

Only in its second year, Climate Week is already supported by all and sundry; from David Cameron, Al Gore and Paul Gilding (former CEO of Greenpeace) to Sir Paul McCartney and (my personal fav) Vivienne Westwood.

See http://www.climateweek.com/ for more info and to find out how to take part.

Ideal Home Show gets behind ethical living

Thumbs up to the Ideal Home Show 2012 which is featuring ethical living in various guises in its 104th year.

In the second year of it's partnership with The Prince's Foundation, this year will see the Prince's Pavilions in not one but three sections of the show. Showcasing the finest quality of British Design, each will satisfy the criteria and ethos of The Prince's Foundation of quality, sustainable technology and ethical production. Something tells me there won't be any Royal Wedding tea towels on show in the Arts and Crafts House though, mores the pity.

Its not only Royalty featuring; admirably, the Show is offering Croydon students from Carshalton College the chance to gain backstage experience in fashion show hair dressing and styling. Working on designers including Elissavet, a womenswear ethical fashion designer producing high end classics with a twist and Ramil Makinano, a Filipino-British designer who uses bright, neon, lighting as the reference for the colour palette, in contrast to the very dark colour of the medieval armour, Albert with an evening wear collection and Marcus Flylander and his street chic luxury brand "FLYLANDER".

Celebrate International Women's Day

It's International Women's Day today and the ideal time to find out more about Kenya's Ethical Fashion Africa Programme run by the UNs International Trade Centre. With heavyweight support from Vivienne Westwood and Stella McCartney, the project aims to support and empower women among some of the most marginalised and poor communities, under the slogan "not charity, just work".

Dame Westwood, always one to put her money where her mouth is, launched a range of handbags last summer, "Handmade with Love" in collaboration with the programme. As with everything Vivienne Westwood, beauty, desirability and passion go hand in hand. If you've not bought one yet, now's the day. Check them out here
